LISTEN: ‘Healing Us’ From Predatory Healthcare

By Bob Hennelly

On this episode of the Stuck Nation Labor Radio Hour, we will get an update on the labor situation at Rutgers University from the leadership of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union, President Amy Higer and Vice President Bryan Sacks.

Earlier this month a coalition of three unions representing 9,000 Rutgers full-time, adjunct, and graduate students suspended their weeklong strike after winning a commitment from management of significant pay raises. In the time since they’ve been at the bargaining table.

In the second half of the show, we will visit with documentary filmmaker Kenny Ballentine, whose latest project “Healing Us” captures the devastating consequences on our families from our nation’s for-profit predatory healthcare system that incentivizes profits over people with deadly results. Lack of adequate coverage kills 68,000 Americans a year while the cost of health care bankrupts half-million American households over the same period. The film makes a compelling case for Medicare for All and depicts the essential work of the Red Beret movement that’s springing up all over the country to demand single payer.

The film is narrated by Susan Sarandon and includes the insights of Wendell Potter, Dr. Joseph  Jarvis, NFL running back Justin Jackson, Dr. Victoria Dooley, Briahna Joy Gray, Scott Desnoyers and Laura Felding.
