On this special Memorial Day edition of “What’s Going On?” we’re talking about how the Trump/Musk junta is trying to cut 80,000 civil servants from the Veterans Administration which provides life saving healthcare to millions of our veterans.

Under the so-called "big-beautiful bill" passed last week by just one vote in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives there is a whopping  $150 billion  dollar increase in military spending pushing the total Pentagon budget to more than a trillion dollars.

The massive increase in military spending comes as the same budget slashes Medicaid by hundreds of billions of dollars, throwing over 10 million Americans off of their healthcare while extending tax cuts to the nation's wealthiest individuals and corporations.

The budget now goes to the U.S. Senate where it only needs a simple majority to head to the White House for President Trump's signature.

In this episode we drill down into the pending Republican budget plan with NJ Spotlight reporter Lilo Stainton who's covered the devastating impact of the spending bill on New Jersey's Medicaid population. She is joined by Laura Waddell, New Jersey Citizen Action Health Care Program Director.

In the second of the show we are joined by former New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Steven Sweeney and Union ironworker who is running for Governor in the Garden State. He says he’s best equipped for the heavy lifting needed to counter Trump’s attack on unions and the working class.
Earlier this month, we heard from both Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, as well as Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop who are also running in the June 10th Democratic Party primary.
