Were you one of those New Yorkers who were banging on pots and pans or hanging out your window applauding overworked nurses and doctors at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic? Well, striking nurses at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan need you on the picket line today.

On this episode of the Stuck Nation Radio Labor Hour, Medical ICU Nurse Michelle Gonzalez tells us that striking nurses grappling with chronic short staffing “have been crying for help for a long time, now.”

“This is about patient care; this is about treating our patients with dignity; this is about how nurses are burnt out and we need somebody to help us,” Gonzalez says. “We need these institutions to hear us when we’re saying there’s a problem inside.”

Listen to the entire exchange below that starts out with 32BJ SEIU President Manny Pastreich calling out profit-driven hospital pricing and ends with him pledging to join nurses on the picket line.
