Sept. 4 Rally Notice!
Hospitals chains, HMO’s and the insurance industry throughout the country are introducing Chatbots and using AI to eliminate nurses and other healthcare workers. A dozen nurses thus far at Montefiore have been laid off and replaced by AI. Shaiju Kalathil, a nurse at Montefiore and a union executive committee member, said the layoffs violate this new contract.
“We are outraged about these layoffs because these dedicated nurses are being replaced by AI,” said Kalathil in a statement. “This is a violation of the contract that we recently won by going on strike. It should also concern every practitioner and patient who cares about the future of healthcare and the quality of care they receive.”
Many people are now resorting to CGPT for therapy because there are no longer enough social workers who can attend to the growing number of patients with psychological issues. This is dangerous for people who need real healthcare workers and not Chatbots. The politicians are controlled by these insurance companies, HMO’s and big pharma, and are allowing the massive introduction of AI and Chatbots without any control or regulation. This will injure and kill patients along with destroying large number of healthcare jobs.
These companies can no longer be allowed to be in charge of our healthcare system. We need single payer system nationally that provides healthcare for all instead of the privately run health system that only benefits the billionaires and companies like United Healthcare which is privatizing and destroying Medicare for more profits using Al to deny care. In many circumstances, AI is what is determining pre-approvals. In many cases, people are turned down based on an AI assessment. Millions of working people in nationally are also losing their healthcare because of cutbacks in medicaid and the elimination of subsidies from ACA. We need to protect the health and lives of the people by getting rid of this broken privatized system and getting single payer for all.
We also need to stop the firings and terror on TPS Nurses and Healthcare workers, many who are from the Haitian community. The Nurses Union and SEIU 1199 must organize and stand with their members and their families who are being put in concentration camps on their way back to Haiti. This is also an attack on all the community members who need these healthcare and homecare workers for their care not to mention it being a frontal attack on the unions. This is a fascist attack on the entire working class.
On Friday September 4, 2026, there will be rallies and actions at US hospitals and clinics to demand an end to Chatbots in our healthcare, defense of workers and for single payer to end the destruction of our healthcare system. We need to build a national movement that will fight these attacks on the working class and poor people.
